Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to my myriad of foodie excursions! If it is comestible I will eat it! I use to be a picky eater but I realized that I’ve been missing out! If you don't open up your palate, YOU HAVE NOT LIVED. I learned to appreciate other cultures through different cuisines & I have TONS of favorites! Caribbean (I’m an east coast girl at heart! Jamaican patties were my staple!), Middle Eastern (I CRAVE basmati rice.. like CRAVE), sushi & Izakaya (if I die tomorrow I would like to have uni and ankimo to be the last thing I eat), Italian (I am WEAK to burrata with EVOO & balsamic dressing drizzled all over on a bed of sour dough), Philipino food (Pork sisig is SO effin good!), Indian (garlic naan dipped in tikka marsala MMMM!), AUTHENTIC Mexican (lamb soup from a Mexican crawl in East LA WOWED me!) and to my own very ethnic food such as Vietnamese (bo kho, bo luc lac, bun rieu, etc. etc. ETC!), Hainanese (I love Savoy!) and French (uhh EVERYTHING!). I'm the happiest when I find a great hole in the wall, appreciate the occasional fine dining experience (not too often to lose its luster), and best of all, good ol’ home cooking. I just love ALL FOOD.

Chego!

3300 Overland Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90034

Chef: Roy Choi
Accolades: Originated from the very popular Kogi Truck, Chego recently opened and only serves dinner from 6 pm until midnight.

I definitely heard the echoed hype about Chego but wasn't exactly sure what Chego was about in terms of what they served since I have the preconception of tacos from the Kogi Truck.  It was a pleasant surprise to discover that served rice bowls instead.  I heard that the pork belly was good so I went with that without examining the menu.

I started off with Cup O'Pickles that had radishes, fennel, cucumber, garlic and chiles.  My favorite was the garlic.  I thought they were mushrooms because of the color.  It wasn't aromatically strong and had a light garlic taste.

Sour Cream Hen House
Grilled, w/fried egg, Chinese broccoli, sour cream sambal, Thai basil, sesame, red jalapeño
I only had a bite but I really loved how the chicken was cooked.  The sour cream brings a milkiness to the bowl.
One Chubby Pork Belly
Kochujang-lacquered, w/fried egg, pickled watermelon radishes, water spinach, cilantro, cotija, peanuts

I was expecting a fatty piece of pork belly but instead they were cut into small pieces with a nice crisp exterior.  Kind of charred but I love it like that!  After I mixed it up as if it was bibimbap I went to town with this bowl!  It had all sorts of flavors from the savoriness of the pork belly to the basil, cilantro and green onion to the fried onion and the kick from the chili.  I can actually eat this on a daily basis.
After it was mixed up.

I heard mixed reviews of Chego and I was hoping that I would love it instead of hate it and I did love it!  It's totally something that can be duplicated at home easily but it's just something about Chego that I would rather come here to have this kind of bowl of rice.  I will definitely be coming back and spread the word of my yummy experience.
